High-Voltage Transformer Fluid Analysis
Fluid-insulated transformers are often the most valuable and critical components of an electrical system. However, submerged and often sealed in electrical insulating fluid, there are few hints as to what is happening with the transformer itself.
In order to assess the condition of a transformer, the insulating fluid in which it is immersed becomes vitally important. Problems such as overheating, failing connections, insulation breakdown and partial discharge impart evidence of these issues into the insulating fluid as dissolved compounds or dissolved gasses.
Extracting and analysing a sample of the insulating fluid provides an incredibly detailed account of the transformer’s operating condition and is widely regarded as one of the most beneficial predictive maintenance tools available.
